Have almost finished framing the outside walls of 2 houses and we'll be doing interior walls and such for them next. I looked at the projected schedule for when each phase of building will start and figured out that I'll be around to learn how to install solar panels. This is a really great skill to learn, because even in this day and age of solar and green building there aren't tons of people out there with this kind of skilled labor knowledge.
We got a new intern last night. He's living at the same house as Luke and I (all the interns dont live together). His name is Tony and he's from Miami, FL. What a change for him I bet. He's never been to the Pacific NW before. I wonder if he'll like the vibes around here. Guess we'll see :)
Saturday was the farmer's market and we had a great time. We were the market band and we weren't expecting to but we made $40 in throw in the guitar case donations. Pleasant surprise. Then we spent the day like i usually do on market day (in Arcata). We hung out in the sun, acted silly, and laughed a lot.
Last weekend Luke and I had our first "island hopping" experience. We've managed to meet/make friends with most of the people on the Island around our age group. They are really fun folks! They remind me a lot of my Arcata friends :) The adventures they take, and the ease and comfortablity of chillen with them. They love to be silly, have fun, collaborative draw, farm, hike, have fires, etc. So, island hopping.....all 20 of us caught the ferry at 6:30-fun ride. Then we got to the dual birthday party which was held on a huge farm with a large pond in the middle. There was tons of delicious food: fresh salmon, rhubarb everything deliciousness, ice cream, and home made wine. We all camped out and met tons of new people. A whole group of ladies came over from their summer internship at The Herb Pharm (medicinal herb farm--not weed :). I didn't end up going to "bed" (camping) till 5:30am....i saw the sun rise-ish!! I havent done that in a while. Then a group of us got up at 7:30 to catch the 8:30 ferry back. The interisland ferrys have puzzles for the morning riders..hah.
On Tues, I took a 7mile bike ride to my friend Callie's in the woodsy woods cabin that used to be her g-mas. Her and Kira (sp?) were hanging out when I got there and we sat on the moss in the sun and talked about life and such with Callie's cat Kaya. What a sweet kitty (pictured below).
Today work was cut short by a crazy storm, but that meant Luke and I could go exploring. We saw Shark Reef...so beautiful (again---- reminds me a lot of Humboldt---everything here does). The we took a very short bike ride out to one of the most beautiful places I've been on the island. It's called Spencer's Spit and it was amazing! Full of drift wood, raining on and off, view of the Olympic Mtn. range. Breathtaking! We also found out that you can make a really sweet marimba out of differnt sized driftwood, so we did that for at least 2 hours. It was such a lovely day. And now it's now :) Thanks for reading. I really appreciate you, whoever you are, putting energy in to my adventure.
