New Year Uncertainty

Well hello there stranger! Geez I'm bad at updating the blog when I'm not traveling around the PNW and bouncing. Thought I s'pose that's when I've gotten interesting stuff going on and pretty pictures and such.
Let's pick up where we left, eh?

So in the end of November I started doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). I fell in love with this sport. It's so rough, tough, graceful, and technical. It's the perfect thing I've been looking to give my devotion and commitment to. I train 6 times a week. I really enjoy the aspect of being physically close (in a non-sexual way) with [in the beginning] strangers. By now, going to BJJ most of the guys I train with are not strangers. We only have 2 other women training. I can't wait to make it to blue belt, that is one of my year end goals.

See that man with his arm around me? His name is Brett and he is one of the most beautiful, inspiring, and caring people I know. He's been such a force in my life for the past 4 years in really supportive and amazing ways. Today I said a temporary farewell to him. He is going away for 5 years. In 5 years, I will be 31 years old. That's a trip. I wonder what will change and who and what he'll come back to. His leaving is a great loss to this community. The prison industrial complex is ludicrous and your/my tax dollars are supporting putting people, good people, in prison/jail.

Continuing with the update....

Went to Lopez for Winter Solstice, which was magical and much needed to reconnect with my family over there.

Had Christmas with my extended family in Sacramento. Hung out with my baby cousin for the first time, she's so cute and intelligent.

In January I started applying to various seasonal jobs like I usually do. Carpentry and construction jobs are hard to find in the area (and lopez) right now. This is frustrating, becasue when the season gets here in 1 month I really really want to be working outside. I've been actively searching  and also trying "letting it come to me" and both are having no results as of late. I'm hoping something will crop up and put my back on track OR I'll have to make up someway to employ myself....i have a bunch of good ideas.

A week before my birthday in January, Jess threw me my very 1st surprise party. It was so amazing and special. I walked in to my house with Jess and as the lights were flipped on I saw 12-15 of my close friends. It immediately sparked my emotions. I will never forget that feeling. Before this birthday, for about the last 10-12 years I've been pretty anti-birthday. And in the last few years I'd had some really disappointing stuff happen on my day. I just felt like everyday could be a birthday and didnt place too much value on days of birth. After this event my perspective totally shifted. Birthdays do matter. The planets and moons are aligned in a unique way that makes you, you and me, me. Cheers to birthdays!

My dad came and visited recently. It was really fun. We went out dancing and had good food and had good fun.

My Mom is here this week and that has been really awesome too. For the 1st time in like 15 years we walked a few blocks and up and downhill together. It was so great! Good job, Mom!

Last weekend Jess and I went to visit Celina in Oregon. It was so good to reconnect with our best buddy trio and really really feel it. Love these two! We are sisters.

Hope y'all are well out there!

Sprout Out!
